Tuesday, Orientation day!

On the school orientation, we were not only introduced to the principal, teachers and staffs, we were also being accompanied to observe the school facilities to make us known well about the school environment. USHS really gave full concern with the learning process, it could be seen by its facilities that the school provided. USHS has 800 acre of width which make it could handle 12 classrooms for every grades and classes. A class has a size approximately 30x35 meters, and it has complete chairs, desks, projectors, LCD, loudspeakers, cupboards, shelves, air conditioners, fans and whiteboards complete with its board maker and eraser. The classroom facilities were in good condition, the facilities made the learning process run effectively. For the laboratories, the school has one computer lab with 20 active computers and the lab is led by Mr. Jonson Reyes as the keeper of the lab. USHS also has 2 science labs, they are biology and chemical lab and it has complete facilities for the students conducting practicum with its chemical things. And the last lab is Audio visual room. This room mostly used for the twelfth grade to conduct learning process. The school also provides consoling room; the room is used for the students who want to tell something regarding to their problem at school or home, the teacher as advisor will care and advise them during the communication happened. Then for teachers’ room, USHS provides one faculty room, which provided with large table for conducting meeting, desks for teachers work, photocopies and printers machine, a refrigerator, water supplier, and board announcements. One administration room, on this room the school staff usually work for doing data management and transaction, communication with other institutions and managing school system. The room also provided with a computer complete with its printers, air cons, a typing machine and desks for working. Another one is principal room. This room is where maam Mercy and her secretary mr. Joseph work. The room was completed with CCTV monitors, desk for working and toilets.

USHS also provides a canteen for the teachers and students to have their meal and do interactions. The school also provided wi-fi connections, there were two wi-fi connections put by the school to help students and teachers to have good internet connection. For the physical activities, USHS built a basketball, volleyball, badminton hall and a huge gym for the students to have physical classes and also it used for other activity like festival or club activity. Restroom also provided well. For the security, this school provided some CCTV which put separated on strategy places to monitor the school activity and also for safety. Those things really needed to support learning and teaching system on University Science High School.

University Science High School has started Full day school, which means that the school started at 07.00 am and the school end at 17.00 pm. It has repeated for 5 days straight. The school has provided several subject materials to fill up those full day of learning. based on the observation it found some information regarding to the classroom learning schedule, it follows:

Having good and complete facilities must be balanced with the activities. Talk about students activities, there were lot of students activities that the school provided, such as club, festival, and competition. Started with the clubs, clubs are used for the students to develop and construct their ability especially their knowledge in specific parts. there were many clubs created by the school such as SSCC club, MEC club, YES-O club, Debate Society club, SMFILMEKK club, Philatelist club, SBO club, Cultural club, and The Researcher club.
1.  Philatelists Club leads by Asst. Prof. Emily A. Concepcion and it has 11 members
2.  Debate Society leads by Asst. Prof. Cynthia Lyn P. Curada with 12 members of the students
3. SMFILMEKK or Samahan ng mga Mag- aaral sa Filipino, Musika, Ekonomika, Kultura at kasayangan leads by Mr. Mark Christian V. De Jesus and it has 12 members
4. MEC or Math Enthusiasts’ Circle leads by Ms. Joanne S. Dizon. This club has the members division which are Elite members and Regular members. The elite members which include of grade 9 and 10 with total of the members are 38. Meanwhile, the regular members are involving the grade 8 until the grade 10 and the total members are 58 students.
5.  SSC or Seekers’ Science Club leads by Assoc. Prof. Evelyn M. Ben and it has 20 members.
6. YES-O leads by Karen J. Barcelita and the club has 15 members
7. Cultural Group leads by Prof. Panuyas, Ph.D and it has 20 club members
8. The Researchers leads by Marius M. Castilo and it has 12 club members
9. SBO or Students Body Organization that leads by Asst. Prof Allan F. Antalan which has 11 members. This organization is more like the students’ council of the school or Senat.
            The clubs regularly conducting activity, it could be competitions, festival, or only small exhibition which made the members or the whole school will learn and keep active to produce something based on things that they love. Ma’am Panuyas also told me that it will help them to create their creativity and critical thinking on certain area. And attraction between teacher and students will be built and closer to know each other, so there is no gap between teacher and student.  
            Students also provided with some activities and competition. There are some big events likes Buwan Ng Wikan which held every August, this event also known as Tagalog language day, the day will make students and teacher use Tagalong in full of one day, there were some activities conducted during the event such as rap, singing, speech, and pageant competition. Next is math day on December, as the name there we will be a math competition conducted. Sport Festival on December, teachers and students will have sport activities on the field. Another one is Science fair on February, so students will display their invention in science and English Festival on January, which is students and teacher will use English in one day full. The school also has some festival likes Lantern festival, INTRAMS, and Fun-day celebration on the end of the year.
            Students’ parent also invited to attend a meeting organization called PTA (Parent-Teachers Organization) by USHS in order to build the relationship between the students' parents and the teachers. Therefore, the parents also involve in developing school qualities whether by mental and physical support also the parents able to know what activities and what facilities that provided by school. Parents also have a right to monitor and know their children activities in the classroom.
