Classroom Problem Solving

(Grade 11 learning activities)

Conducting teaching activity in the classroom was not always on what we have expected before. There were many problems that I faced during the teaching process. Started from the observation, I saw many problems happened during the teacher teaching activities, likes hardly to catch the material, broken projector, students sleepy, passive/over active, and always asking for games. To deal with this situation, as a prospective teacher preparing everything perfectly was the only way that I could handle the problems. On designing the lesson plan, providing appropriate approach or strategy was really important to help students achieved the learning goals and minimize the problem happened during the learning process. By mastering the lesson plan well, I could easily solve the problem that I have faced. These are common problems that I faced and how was I solved it:
a. hardly to catch the material, it was rarely happened, but I found one two cases when my students were totally could not organize the material given. So I provided them with simple instruction complete with its examples based on real life experiences. It made the students easier to imagine the meaning of the materials. Accent also was became the problem, but was not that much Philippines accent was different and I tried to hide my Balinese accent to try learn Philippines accent, but I did that was not bad.
b. students sleepy, when the learning activity started after lunch break, students sometimes feel sleepy because the weather was quite hot, also supported with meal that they have eaten. So the solution that I offered was by giving more ice breaking activity which related with the material so the time still manageable.
c. passive and overactive students, all students were so smart but not all students were given an ability to do good social interaction. I never forced my students to speak more in front of the class but I have provided different activities and method that helped them stated their mind properly. And for hyperactive students I used project-based approach to deliver their “over activeness” in order to make them be more creative.
d. last problem was students only wanted to play than learn. I solved this problem by conducting fun learning activity and added some jokes during the learning activity. So they enjoyed the learning process that I have delivered without decreasing the learning objectives.

Being a teacher is the same as an architecture, a lot of consideration needed to be handled to build a building same like teaching, teacher responsibilities are not only deliver the material but also make an effective and conducive learning process based on students’ needs.
