USHS Classroom Teaching Method

On the first week of
observation, I was curious with the method that is used by the teacher on
conducting teaching activity. As we know approaches and methods are important to be applied
based on the topic material given, it means the teacher must identify the
appropriate method that will be used in the classroom depend on the situation
and needs. USHS teacher was implementing some various methods in teaching;
different individual has their own way of teaching which modified based on the
material. In today’s school the trend is that it encourages a lot of
creativity. By providing various methods which make students able to elaborate
themselves in learning. Based on the observation conducted on grade 9 and 11 of USHS classes the teacher has applied same method which called student
centered-method.
Student centered-method, while teacher has the authority to make sure that the students must be active and be a information resources in the classroom by stating or giving opinion related with the topic discussed, teacher and students play an equal active role in
learning process, the core role of teacher is to coach or guide and facilitate
students learning and overall comprehension of material, while students need to be more active in learning, automatically able to produce their own knowledge and solve any problem brought. Both grades also able
explored their ability during the class and discussion. Students are asked be
more active to participate the learning activity, the media used also provided
and sometimes students also should be creative and innovative as possible. The
students in both grade 9 and 11 were enjoying the
class due the method applied.
Teacher also combined core method (SCM) with fun learning
activity at the beginning of lesson. Being cheerful and attractive was one of
technique that was used during the observation conducted. My teacher conducted
a game to gain students attention and their curiosity in order to make them
deal with the learning time. The game was consuming short period of time but
was so meaningfully. Teacher has used various media for supporting the teaching
activity. Teacher was not only used her natural voice and knowledge to deliver
the material but some medias were applied to help her to manage the material.
The teacher was giving the material using communicative and attractive way
while using the media, it made the class situation be more enjoyable.
To avoid passive and lecturing process only, the other
common method used by the teacher was inquiry-based learning method. On this method
the teacher was frequently giving question answer to the students to deepen
their understanding and build their critical thinking. By conducting this
method students given a chance to state their opinion regarding to the
material, and problem solving skill also built stronger. The confidence also
constructed during the lesson, I saw the students enjoy to express their
opinion, that was great they were trained to improve something relate with
their self esteem.
